- What is powder coating?
- Powder coating is essentially paint in powder form. It's a dry, powdered substance manufactured using specialist equipment, applied electrostatically to the part, and cured in an oven. The result is a tough, protective coating available in thousands of colors and effects — harder and more durable than liquid paint.
- What substrates can IFS powder be applied to?
- Most IFS powders are formulated for metal substrates — aluminum and steel in particular. For heat-sensitive materials like wood, MDF, and engineered wood products, our PureClad range of low-temperature cure powders is specifically designed to deliver full performance without damaging the substrate.
- Can powder coating be applied on site?
- No. Powder coating must be applied on a professional coating line and cured in a purpose-built oven. It cannot be applied in the field or on site, unlike liquid paints. The electrostatic application process and controlled cure cycle are essential to achieving the correct finish and performance.
- Can I manufacture powder coating on site?
- No. Powder is made in a factory using specialist equipment including an extruder and micronizer. This controlled manufacturing environment is what enables the consistent quality and performance you get from IFS powder coatings.
- How quickly can IFS match a custom color?
- We aim to match, make, and mail a custom color within 7–10 days of receiving your sample. Our color matching experts check the match, formulate the powder, spray test panels, and send them back for your approval. Rush service is available if you need it faster.
- Where can I find Safety Data Sheets (SDS)?
- We don't publish SDS documents online — this ensures you always have the most current version. An SDS is sent with every product purchase. If you need a copy for a specific product, contact us and we'll send the correct, up-to-date SDS directly to you.
- What shipping options are available?
- We offer a range of shipping options to suit different order sizes and timelines. Small quantities can be shipped next-day air at competitive rates. For larger quantities, LTL (less-than-truckload) freight is available. Talk to us about your requirements and we'll find the best fit.
