Technology Overview
Understanding
Standard Polyester
Standard polyester is the most widely used resin chemistry in powder coatings. It delivers a balanced combination of UV resistance, color retention, and mechanical durability at a competitive cost point.
The resin is crosslinked at cure using either TGIC (triglycidyl isocyanurate) or HAA (hydroxyalkylamide). Both achieve equivalent performance in the finished film; the choice is driven by regulatory requirements and line process parameters.
Speak with a technical specialistUV & Weather Resistance
Superior resistance to UV degradation ensures color and gloss retention over years of outdoor exposure, and it is AAMA 2603 eligible as standard.
Interior & Exterior Versatility
Suitable for aluminum and steel substrates across a broad application range, from architectural interiors to wheels and consumer goods.
Broad Color & Effects Range
Compatible with the full IFS color palette, standard and premium gloss levels, and a wide range of special effects finishes.
Formulation Comparison
Same core performance. Choose based on your regulatory environment and process constraints.
Formulation A
Standard Polyester TGIC
Tri Glycidyl Iso Cyanurate crosslinker
Advantages
- All-purpose interior and exterior coating
- Chemical and impact resistance
- Broad color, gloss, and special effects range
- Overbake resistance to yellowing
- Meets or exceeds performance requirements of AAMA 2603
- Cost-effective; customizable for additional functionality
Limitations
- Inferior chemical resistance vs. epoxies
- Limited exterior durability compared to super durables
Formulation B
Standard Polyester TGIC-Free
HAA (hydroxyalkylamide) crosslinker
Advantages
- Same core performance profile as TGIC
- No TGIC, compliant with EU and restricted-market regulations
- Higher first-pass transfer efficiency
Limitations
- Sensitive to excess film thickness
- Restricted cure and gloss range
- Less overbake resistance than TGIC
- More prone to corrosion with inadequate pre-treatment
