IFS: Tell us about the special effects you are creating with powders, what are they?

Jarod: We’re really excited about the reaction from architects and designers over these new Polychrotina™ finishes. We call them our patina finishes, and we believe they are revolutionizing the architectural landscape by offering a unique functional blend of durability, aesthetic appeal, sustainability and of course inspiration. Powder coating provides exceptional protection against corrosion, weathering, and wear, extending the lifespan of the coated architectural elements. IFS: How did these powder effects come about?

Jarod: We have been powder coating for many years, and using single color powders in smooth, textured, metallic finishes to achieve a beautiful coated surface. We coat a wide range of products, from small metal parts to large industrial equipment. We developed this process in response to a demand from the design community for multifaceted looks with real depth and interest, not just a single color. Thus Polychrotina™ patina powder effects were born!

IFS: The Polychrotina™ finishes are certainly beautiful.  What substrates are these effects created on?

Jarod: Powder coating is a versatile finish that can be applied to a wide range of metal substrates commonly used in architecture. We have created these finishes on:

• Aluminum: Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, aluminum is a popular choice for exterior cladding, windows, doors, and architectural accents.
• Steel: Offering high strength and durability, steel is used in structural elements, railings, and metal roofing.
• Stainless Steel: Known for its resistance to corrosion and staining, stainless steel is often used in high-end architectural applications like facades, handrails, and elevators.
• Iron: While less common in contemporary architecture, iron is still used for decorative elements and ornamental work.
